Bridgette Murray and ACTS Fight for Environmental Justice in Houston’s Pleasantville
Bridgette Murray, founder of Achieving Community Tasks Successfully (ACTS), is leading the charge for environmental justice in Houston’s Pleasantville neighborhood, which suffers from pollution due to nearby industries and the Interstate 610 loop. ACTS is focused on tackling the environmental issues that impact this largely Black community.
With Murray’s guidance, ACTS has obtained a federal grant to monitor air quality in Pleasantville. This grant is key for collecting data that residents can use to push for stronger environmental protections. Murray knows this is just the beginning and stresses that ongoing financial support is crucial for making real progress.
Her work fits into the broader environmental justice goals supported by the Biden administration, which has allocated significant resources and enforced tougher regulations for marginalized communities. However, Murray and other advocates understand that achieving lasting change requires continued effort and investment.
