Robert D. Bullard, Ph.D., is founding director of the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice and distinguished professor of urban planning and environmental policy at Texas Southern University. He received his Ph.D. degree in sociology from Iowa State University.
Professor Bullard is often called the “father of environmental justice.” He is co-founder of the HBCU-CBO Gulf Coast Equity Consortium and HBCU Climate Change Consortium, and co-chair of the National Black Environmental Justice Network.

Mission
The Robert D. Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at Texas Southern University primary mission is education and training, public policy analysis and policy development, and science across multiple disciplines, including environmental science, social and behavioral science, public health, and urban planning, to create systemic change.
Vision and Goal
Our vision is to be a leading force for transformative environmental and climate justice using rigorous science, community-driven research, policy, civic engagement programming, and effective advocacy.
Our goal is to lead and support efforts whose aim is to end systemic racism and structural inequality where Black people live, work, play, learn, and pray, and advance environmental and climate justice, sustainability and community resilience — viewed through a racial justice and equity lens.
