The EPA announced the Biden-Harris Administration's plan to add approximately $100 million in grant funding to underserved communities throught the Inflation Reduction Act.
I am elated to see the Biden-Harris administration’s EPA direct a $100 million in grant funding through Inflation Reduction Act to partnerships that begin to tackle underinvestment and legacy pollution in overburdened and underserved communities. By focusing resources at the local level, solution-driven partnerships, networks and consortia—like our HBCU-CBO Consortia, have an excellent opportunity to leverage resources to build transformative wealth, improve health and well-being, and strengthen resilience in our most climate vulnerable places.
The Bullard Center is fully committed to this long overdue initiative. The time is right and it’s the right thing to do. We applaud EPA Administrator Regan for his bold leadership in environmental justice. And yes, we expect more environmental justice funding and investments in our organizations and institutions to follow given the enormity of the challenges and converging multiple threats facing our people and communities in the era of climate change, says Dr. Robert D. Bullard, Director of the Bullard Center and “Father of Environmental Justice.”
