The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) released a new rule this week regarding the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  This stronger rule moves the United States closer to achieving environmental justice for all. CEQ defined environmental justice in NEPA, one of our nation’s foundational environmental policies, as “the just treatment and meaningful involvement of all people so that they are fully protected from disproportionate and adverse human health and environmental effects and hazards, and have equitable access to a healthy, sustainable, and resilient environment.”

The Bullard Center applauds CEQ for taking steps to modernize NEPA, acknowledging the importance of protecting populations and communities, assessing multiple sources of pollution, and strengthening reviews around climate change and provisions that will help to ensure a just transition to clean energy and away from fossil fuels.
