Free ride service available for Houston's Third Ward residents
The RYDE shuttle, a free on-demand ride service, is now available to residents in Houston's Third Ward. The electric vehicle shuttle, similar to ride-sharing services like Uber, aims to eliminate transportation barriers in underserved communities. The shuttle offers free rides to residents, taking them to places like the doctor's office, grocery store, or work. The service is welcomed by residents who lack transportation options, and it is particularly important in an area that has limited access to green energy funding. The initiative was made possible through a grant from the nonprofit Evolve Houston and funding from Houston Council Member Carolyn Shabazz's District D's office. Residents can download the "Ride Circuit app" to request rides, and the shuttle operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
