The EV Shift Could Prevent Millions of Childhood Asthma Attacks

Summary

A transition to zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs) could significantly improve the lives of millions of children growing up near highways in the U.S., according to a study by the American Lung Association. The study, released on February 21, reveals that widespread adoption of EVs could prevent nearly 3 million asthma attacks, hundreds of infant deaths, and millions of respiratory ailments. Children, more vulnerable to air pollution, would benefit the most. Approximately 27 million children live in areas with high air pollution levels, affecting their health from the womb and throughout their lives. The study emphasizes the urgency of transitioning to cleaner vehicles, especially trucks, and calls for clear-cut emission standards and incentives to promote EV adoption, addressing both climate change and public health concerns.
