ECO General Body Meeting

The Environmental Conservation Organization (ECO) at Texas Southern University, often referred to as Club ECO, is a student-led organization dedicated to fostering sustainability and environmental justice on campus and within the Greater Third Ward community. Founded by TSU students and interns from the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice, the group serves as a hub for students passionate about climate action and ecological preservation.

General Body Meeting Overview

A typical General Body Meeting (GBM) for TSU’s ECO focuses on bridging the gap between academic research and hands-on community service. Key components of these meetings usually include:

  • Action Planning: Coordinating on-campus initiatives such as campus-wide cleanups, recycling drives, and the development of community gardens.
  • Environmental Justice Advocacy: Discussing localized climate issues and ways to support the mission of the Bullard Center, particularly in addressing the disproportionate impact of pollution on minority communities.
  • Skill-Building & Workshops: Hosting sessions on sustainable living, such as "eco-minimalism," urban gardening techniques, or career development within the green energy sector.
  • Event Programming: Planning large-scale campus events like the Annual Earth Day Farmers Market, which brings together local vendors, live music, and eco-conscious resources for the student body.
