DeJonique Baptiste, MSJ

DeJonique G. Baptiste is the Assistant Director of Communication at the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice. With more than a decade of experience in journalism and communications, she is responsible for amplifying the content, research, and initiatives across the center that address the unique challenges facing Black America.
Her New Orleans upbringing, marked by natural disasters and political scandals, fueled her dedication for community advocacy. DeJonique graduated magna cum laude from Clark Atlanta University in 2011 with a degree in Mass Media Art. While completing her Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern in 2014, Baptiste reported on education and immigration across Chicago and Washington D.C.
The two-time Emmy Award-winning journalist has freelanced for a range of publications including USA Today, reported on local government in Augusta, GA, anchored evening news at KBMT in Beaumont, TX, and enhanced digital strategy as a social media anchor/producer for KIAH-TV in Houston, TX.
When she’s not busy following the latest news, Baptiste enjoys family time with her husband, Jimmy, and their son, Roman, experimenting with new recipes, and engaging in community outreach through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
