Stephen Pinkney, Ph.D.
Stephen Pinkney, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Urban Planning and Environmental Policy at the Barbara Jordan – Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs Department at Texas Southern University. He received his Master’s in Education Administration Leadership at Lamar University and his Bachelor’s in Business/Finance at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Dr. Pinkney concentrates on Environmental Justice and Community Building. His dissertation, “A Case Study Examining Systemic African American Poverty in Caddo Parish and Bossier Parish, Louisiana focuses on his areas of concentration.
Dr. Pinkney was an instructor for the Bullard Center’s Inaugural HBCU Environmental Climate Corp Program. He is researching landfills and methane emissions and their effects on the environment, climate, fenceline communities, and human health. He is also performing continuous work with his dissertation, which focuses on environmental justice to address issues in the African American community and other communities of color. Originally from Shreveport, LA, Dr. Pinkney moved to Houston, TX, in 2003. Furthermore, he volunteers for numerous African American groups in the Third and Fifth Ward communities in Houston, Texas, and African Diaspora groups.
