The Hip Hop Caucus recently held its inaugural “Hip Hop Caucus A. Donald McEachin Environmental Justice Award reception”.
The award was named after Representative A. Donald McEachin’s for his years of service, and for his steadfast commitment to fighting for an equitable and just environmental strategy for our Black and Brown underserved and lower income communities. The 2023 inaugural awardees were U.S. Senator Cory Booker, as well as U.S. Representatives Barbara Lee and Raul Grijalva.
The Hip Hop Caucus began with the goal of connecting the hip hop community to the democratic and political processes that make this nation work. Eighteen years later, they are proud of their many successes while recognizing the continued magnitude of the work ahead. There are a variety of issue areas that continue to require our focus from climate and economic justice to voting rights, democracy and criminal justice reform, and education.
As a 21st Century BIPOC and women-led organization, the Hip Hop Caucus utilizes culture and the power of narrative storytelling to uplift, engage, educate and empower BIPOC communities.
